Personal Statement
Lingyi Zhang is a speculative media artist. Her multidisciplinary practice spans moving image, experimental animation, creative coding, installation, experimental theatre, and photography. Through diverse media, she explores the entanglements between human perception, technology, and narrative through spatial and embodied experiences. Her recent work investigates power structures in the age of AI and digital mediation, focusing on how technological systems reflect, intervene in, and reshape perceptual experience. Her current projects examine how technologies exceed their role as tools or media to become environmental forces that reshape relationships between bodies, infrastructures, and belief systems. Through recurring explorations of adaptation, recursion, and reproduction, her work considers how technological environments reorganise the body as lived geography and increasingly operate as self-reproducing systems.
